Home Buyer Tax Credit

Available to first-time home buyers and qualified repeat home owners

Tax credit does not have to be repaid

Tax credit is equal to 10% of home's purchase price

First Time Home Buyers up to $8,000. A buyer who has not owned a principal residence during the three-year period prior to purchase.

Repeat or Move-up Home Buyer up to $6,500. A buyer who has owned and resided in the same home for at least five consecutive years of the eight years prior to the purchase date. Repeat home buyers do not have to purchase a home that is more expensive than their previous home to quality for the tax credit.

Available for homes purchased January 1, 2009 - April 30, 2010
